Practicing over the Holidays
How do we remain consistent when all of our schedules are turned upside down with parties, family gatherings, and concerts among other committments? Keep it fun, keep it simple. Review Review Review. Listen Listen Listen! Play fun practice games such as rolling dice and using one di as the number of the song from the book to play and the second di is how many times to play it. Have your children entertain your guests with review pieces (if they want to, let's not force them). Keep upbeat and convey the message that practicing is fun and happens every day of the week-even on a holiday! Let's all leave comments with what works for us and feel free to vent frustrations as well.

we really love the suzuki method for the fact that it really puts a lot of positive habits into your life. Just the process of practicing and listening every day gets you organizing things in a way that makes those things possible.
When other unavoidable activities interfere with getting the practice done early in the day, which is our chosen time, then we resort to evening practice. Even if it's during the commercial breaks of American Idol, we still get it done....
one of my frustrations has been francesca's immediate annoyance to my pointing out something that she needs to fix. ways we have overcome that: i have used her horse puppet to talk to her and she actually loves that, it becomes a game to her.
Also, i am learning to remember to only focus on one thing at a time.
And to be SILENT at the lessons and group lessons!! ;)
we might be learning more than francesca is, am i getting the right idea?
in any case, i am happy to see that nowadays things have actually progressed just about to the point where we all look forward to practice, the "mommy , can we practice now?" idea. I have to say that when we first started out, i didnt feel that we would ever get to that point....
